One of the main characters cuts herself, and they make a point that she has done it before, but her friend finally gets her help and they put her on medication and that all stops. There is an upsetting topic that parents should know about so if you are a teen who hasn’t read the book stop reading because this gives away something in the book. Although there are relationships and one of the girls kind of Known for being with a lot of guys, and there is a relationship with a high school student and and instructor who is in his twenties, but the older person puts it to a stop. This book, is mainly about friendship, but parents should know that there is making out and partying, and an almost sex scene. So 12+ at a minimum, and 14+ should probably be fine. So, I think it’s safe to say this book is ok for teens 14+, and may be ok, however an iffy choice for ages 12-13. The book does not seem to be trying to normalize this behavior, but it certainly isn’t behavior that anyone should pick up from these characters. She gets into trouble, and drinks (which she’s underage for). Though Rose is definitely a good friend to her friend Lissa, she also is not the best role model either. A character who really loves animals is being tormented by someone who keeps leaving dead animals for her that they themselves probably killed just to upset her. Violence is also somewhat prevalent, though not graphic. There also is some swearing, and a few f bombs. It also is talked about that the main character, Rose, whose only 17 has a crush on her much older teacher, and seems to be even making advances towards him. One thing worth covering is that there is a sex scene (non-explicit) in this book, where Rose (the protagonist), and another character kiss and grope each other, and get caught. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone under at least 12 or 13, and even then, it may be rather iffy for that age. There are some good messages in the story, like how bullying can affect people, and what true friendship really means.

This is a good book, but it sometimes is a bit hard to follow.
